Obituary of Ronald Leo Horres

Ronald Leo Horres passed on September 20, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two children, Nicholas and Valerie; his sister, Jane; niece, Diane, and nephew, Don, and their families.

Ron, or “Mystr Stoat,” to many Girl Scouts and friends alike, will be remembered for his amusingly strange sense of humor, patient kindness, and his terrible taste in décor (black and hot pink? Gothic statuaries? What was he thinking?!). He will also be remembered for his civil engineering career and working with a lively group of fun folk in downtown Portland. Ron spent a large portion of his free time volunteering with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, coaching soccer (or whatever wacko hobby his kids wanted to do), and teaching Sunday school, and is sure to be missed by all those whose life paths intersected with his.

The Horres family will be hosting a “Celebration of Life” Service on October 13th, 2018, at 1:30 pm at Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ (5150 SW Watson Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005). All who desire are welcome to attend. The event will be casual: jeans, t-shirts, vampire costumes, your best pajamas—Ron was a laidback, fun guy and we are honoring his memory with humor and love.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family asks that if you are so inclined, please help support Paws Assisting Veterans (PAVE) by making a donation. Valerie is on the board of PAVE, and as a lover of dogs, Ron greatly supported her work with this organization, which provides highly trained service dogs to veterans at no cost.
