Obituary of Mary M. Galego (Bello)

Mary Madaline Galego (Bello), age 84, of Hillsboro, OR passed away on May 30, 2021. Mary was born and raised in Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, on July 2, 1936, to Frank and Maria Bello. Mary had ten siblings. In 1948, at the age of age of 12, Mary migrated to Petaluma, California with her parents and siblings. Mary met the love of her life, Arthur C. Galego in 1954. They quickly fell in love and were married in 1956. They had three sons, Arthur, Anthony and David. Mary and Art were inseparable. They had love, respect, and passion for each other like no other. Mary was a beautiful, Portuguese woman inside and out and always put her family first. Her grandchildren fondly refer to her as their “Portuguese Queen”. She was a faithful, devout Catholic and lived her life as such every day. Mary was a supportive wife, nurturing mother and grandmother, and a wonderful homemaker. In addition, she also had a successful career in manufacturing at Tektronix. Mary was friendly and outgoing and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed making her special Portuguese foods from scratch (with no recipes) such as rice pudding, sweet bread, filhos donuts, and sopas. Mary also enjoyed attending Portuguese Festas and regularly volunteered at her church. Mary was preceded in death by husband Arthur C. Galego, sisters Louisa Mattos and Helen Bello, brothers Edward, Adrian, Theodore, Manuel and Joe Bello. She is survived by her three sons, Arthur V. Galego (Cecelia), Anthony Galego (Jeanne), David Galego (Laurel), sister, Virginia Bello and brother, Tony Bello. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
