Joyce Jean Carver (Judah), born to Elizabeth R. Dobbins and Ed Judah in Hamilton, MO. They moved to Oregon with her older sister Wanda, and younger sister Edda, when Joyce was five. She graduated from Hill High and had her first part time job was at the theater. She grew up going to church and would talk about her favorite experiences being at church camp. She was adventurous and outgoing she liked learning new jobs either within the same company she worked for or starting a new one. She was kind, gentle, and very friendly she would strike up a conversation with anyone when at the grocery store or just checking the mail.
