Obituary of Hans Fred Steiner

Hans Steiner, 98, passed away on Saturday, June 2nd. Hans was born on January 14th,1920 in Thuren, Germany to Gustav and Martha Steiner. He immigrated with his parents and older brother from Germany to Canada in 1925. Hans was a farmer in Canada when he met Eileen Elston of Winnipeg Manitoba at a dance. They were married in 1955. In 1957 they decided to move from Canada to California with their daughter Lori who was 1 year old. On the way Lori got sick, so they got off the train in Portland Oregon. They never did move to California. They liked Portland so they stayed. They lived in Portland for awhile and then settled in Hillsboro. Hans became a diesel mechanic after the move to Portland. He was a mechanic for 25 years before his retirement. Hans was preceded in death by his wife Eileen in 1991, his brother Gustav in 1994, and his sister Hilda Lang of Vancouver, BC recently in 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Lori Schmidt of Bend, OR, Cheryl Nelson of Aloha OR, and Karen Steiner who lives in Beaverton, OR. He is also survived by his grandson Jason Schricker and granddaughter Jennifer Nelson A service is being held at Reformation Lutheran Church in Hillsboro located at 4435 SE Tualatin Valley hwy at 11:00 am on Friday the 8th.
