Obituary of Peggy Lynn Leathers

In Honor of Peggy Lynn Leathers, 67; Aloha, Oregon. After a seven-year battle with cancer, Peggy went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8. She died at home under the love and care of her husband, Raymond "Rayzor" Leathers. Peggy was born at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro on September 25, 1955, to Martha Elizabeth Epler and Henry Sirus Epler. She had two brothers, Richard, ten years older, and Wesley, five years older. The family initially resided on a 69-acre farm on Mt. Richmond outside Gaston. In '63, the family moved to Beaverton when Peggy was in the third grade. She worked for Mears Controls after graduating from Sunset High School in '74. Then in '76, she went to work for Leupold & Stevens, assembling scopes. A few years later ('79), Ray was interviewing for a job at Leupold & Stevens, and Peggy smiled as he walked by. With that one smile—he would be forever and always hers. In '81, Peggy and Ray were married at an outdoor wedding in her parent's backyard—in a record-breaking temperature of 107 degrees. For many years they attended Cedar Hills Christian Church. God blessed them with the birth of Sara in '83 and Tyler in '85. Peggy graced every room she walked into with the same smile and charm that so attracted Ray to her the first time he saw her. Her can-do attitude enabled her to tackle life's challenges head-on, including cancer. She was kind-hearted, even-tempered, encouraging, and always looked at the bright side of things. She was a rock to her family, and, as Ray has often said, she was "A special person." Peggy was not into high fashion or material possessions. The pride and joy of her life was her family. Quiet times as a couple, camping with friends and loved ones, going for long drives, and enjoying the moment fulfilled her. Peggy loved her dogs—especially the German Shepherd, Ruger, who was by her side every step as she battled cancer. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wesley. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, her daughter, Sara, her son, Tyler, and three grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be at 1:00 on Wednesday, May 3, at Beaverton Foursquare Church, West Chapel. _______________________________________________ Although Peggy Lost The Battle—She Won The Fight Peggy courageously fought a good fight against cancer for seven years.
