Obituary of Wen Cheng Hsu

Wen Cheng Hsu, or Akon as his grandchildren called him, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017, from surgical complications. He is survived by his wife, Chia-Ching, two children, two children-in-law, and three grandchildren. Many words can be used to describe Wen Cheng; he was the best of fathers and grandfathers; he loved life, good food and drink, friends, dogs and golf; he was kind, trusting, forever optimistic and only saw the best in everyone. So, he made friends everywhere he went and he traveled around the world because he was curious and eager to know more people and experience different cultures. Wen Cheng was born on November 4, 1940, in Chia-Yi, Taiwan. He graduated from Taiwan National University with a foreign language degree, majoring in English, Japanese and Spanish. His love for exploration led him to Brazil, where he and his wife raised two children and an assortment of ‘pets’ (birds, cat, tortoises, rabbits, chickens, monkeys, and many many dogs). Using his linguistic abilities and business savvy, he worked in shipyards, opened gift shops, and became an import/export trading manager. Still, Wen Cheng’s success was measured by the depth of his commitment to his family and by the loudness of the laughters he brought on. He provided his children the financial support to attend American colleges and inspired them to achieve post-graduate education, and pursue opportunities to grow and be successful in a completely foreign land. Wen Cheng will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He colored our lives with jokes, amazed us with his billiards and ping-pong skills, and loved us always. He was best friend to his grandchildren, sharing with them many happy and memorable moments. The world feels emptier without him. We are comforted by God’s blessings and the knowledge that Akon has lived a happy and fulfilling life. Service Information
