Obituary of Betty Louise Zak

Betty Lou Zak passed away Thursday morning, May 10, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Virgil and Linda Howell, Beaverton, Oregon. Betty was born in Tacoma, WA to Elizabeth (Betty) and Louie Mazza. She lived her entire life in the Puget Sound area until her cancer diagnosis in March and subsequent move to Oregon to be cared for by her daughter. Betty worked for the federal government in the Seattle immigration office and in Auburn at the social security call center until her retirement. Betty loved to shop and buy gifts for others. She also loved to make things for others or sell them at craft fairs. Betty loved collecting antique glassware, buttons, cookbooks, magazines, jewelry, and all sorts of interesting things. Betty’s final years were spent in Kent, WA with her furry companion of 15 years, Toto. Toto died in February of this year. Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Virgil of Beaverton, Oregon; brother Richard Mazza of Puyallup, WA; grandchildren Tristan and Brennan of Beaverton, OR and Cierra of Federal Way, WA. Betty’s son David preceded her in death in 2010. Betty is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Washington state. Many thanks to the great team at Kaiser Permanente Hospice for their loving expert care in the 7 weeks they cared for Betty in her illness. Also thankful for caregivers Heather and Reanna from Home Instead for their assistance in Betty’s final weeks. A private scattering of her ashes will be at Mt. Rainier later this spring where her mother and stepfather’s ashes are.
